Severely Mentally Retarded Children Are Recklessly At Risk For Choking To Death, Part 3

Hi Nancy. This is Bill Detzner, with an additional piece of information that I hope will be of use to the PTA of MDCPS. A few years ago, in protest of the new curriculum (Unique Learning System (ULS) that MDCPS unilaterally imposed on Neva King Cooper (NKC) School, the parents of one of our students, to protest the fact that the new curriculum is far too advanced for any of our students to grasp, stopped sending their son/daughter to NKC, saying it was a waste of the child’s time, as he/she had no hope of grasping concepts that vastly exceeded his/her intellectual capacity. The response of MDCPS was to present these parents with an ultimatum. That ultimatum was to either send the child back to NKC (with no compromise whatsoever on the curriculum presented to that student), or have child protective “services” remove the child from his home and place the child into a foster home. Here is the dilemma faced by parents of NKC children. Either send your child to NKC, where the child faces an entirely preventable artificially elevated risk of choking to death on his/her food, or have the child involuntarily removed from his/her home and placed into a foster home. It’s bad enough that these children now have a curriculum where they may learn almost nothing after up to 19 years of attendance, but now these parents are involuntarily forced to play Russian Roulette with their children’s lives, because Mr. Carvalho, who has known about this problem for over 3 years, has done NOTHING to solve this easily preventable problem. Nancy, if you had a child in attendance at NKC, would YOU be happy with this arrangement? Please be advised that every email I send to you is posted on my blog. Please also be advised that I am attempting to interest both the New York Times and the Miami Herald (and many other parties, including the Marjory Douglass Stoneman community, Rick Scott, and Bill Nelson) in this story. Thank You so much for any help you are able to provide in this area, and I appreciate the advocacy you do on behalf of children.

  1. The heart of your writing while appearing agreeable at first, did not work well with me after some time. Someplace throughout the paragraphs you were able to make me a believer unfortunately just for a very short while. I still have a problem with your jumps in assumptions and you might do well to help fill in all those breaks. If you can accomplish that, I will surely end up being impressed.
