Severely Mentally Retarded Children Are Recklessly At Risk For Choking To Death, Part Two

Hi Nancy. This is Bill Detzner. First, I want to express my deep appreciation for your very informative Olli class. I was very impressed with the depth of your knowledge of the subject. As class ended yesterday, I asked if you had time to read the email I sent you a week ago. You replied that you had been very busy and have not yet had time to read my email. While I respect the fact that you are a very busy person, I am also deeply concerned about the Damocles Sword hanging over the heads of severely mentally retarded children. To refresh your memory, I asked you as the PTA President of MDCPS to express the PTA’s concerns to Superintendent Carvalho about the easily preventable choking to death danger the students of Neva King Cooper (NKC) have been exposed to for over 3 years. My fear is that with your very full schedule, taking care of this urgent problem will be forgotten and slip through the cracks. I have posted my October 4, 2018 email to you on my website (mdcpsallegations.com) My concern is that if (God forbid) an NKC child chokes to death on his/her food, readers of my blog will discover that the PTA has been aware of this problem since October4, 2018 and did not act to protect the lives of children so vulnerable that they literally cannot speak for themselves. I am sure you can appreciate the avalanche of negative publicity the PTA would experience if this were to happen. In my website, I suggested 3 steps Mr. Carvalho could take to safeguard the lives of the children of NKC. Those 3 steps are: 1) immediately relieve both NKC administrators of their duties and replace them with the previous NKC administrators (Principal Dr. Alberto Fernandez and assistant principal Mr. Henny Cristobol) 2) Have Mr. Carvalho issue a memo to all NKC staff stating that staff who practice due diligence in the performance of their duties will not be subjected to disciplinary measures. 3) Provide yearly training for all NKC staff in lifesaving first aid. If my 3 suggestions exceed the mandate of the PTA, I am asking the PTA to make whatever suggestions fall within the PTA mandate to Mr. Carvalho. I am also wondering if the PTA would be gracious enough to send me a copy of any communication the PTA sends to MDCPS officials? Thank You for your help, Nancy, and I deeply appreciate all of the advocacy you do on behalf of school children.

  1. Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!
